Formerly known as The Asylum and Training School for the Feeble Minded, Rosewood State Training School, Rosewood State Hospital and currently Rosewood Center, this abandoned mental hospital is located in Owings Mills, Maryland.
Established in 1888 as the Asylum and Training School for the Feeble Minded., it became known as Rosewood State Training School from 1912 to 1961. In 1961, the school became the Rosewood State Hospital and finally being renamed the Rosewood Center when the departments of health and mental hygiene merged in 1969.
In January 2008, after several complaints, some which detailed patient abuse and neglect, Maryland's governor ordered the facility closed within 18 months. The patients are currently being placed in other facilities.
The buildings making up this complex are antiquated and although part of campus is still active, there are a number of abandoned buildings on the campus. In a state of disrepair and overgrown some of these buildings are reported to be haunted. The random rusted old wheelchair and other related items scattered about the campus adds to the possibility of former patients haunting the place.
We personally visited in June 2008 and the place definitely has some paranormal activity going on there. Several people in our group reported unexplainable experiences and photos taken during the visit revealed some unexplainable images as well.
There are no personal accounts for this place yet.
